East Bengal FC vs Hyderabad FC Preview

East Bengal FC is coming on the back of a 0-0 draw against Jamshedpur FC in their ISL opener. Carles Cuadrat’s men failed to get on the scoresheet even after creating a host of chances. Poor finishing cost Cuadrat two points in the first fixture. It is something that the Spanish coach will be looking to avoid against Hyderabad FC. However, their defensive solidity will provide Cuadrat with some relief. Jamshedpur FC were unable to find their way past EBFC’s defensive line.

EBFC started the season on a strong note, taking the Durand Cup runners-up trophy home against all odds. The Red & Gold brigade displayed some amazing intent in the tournament. They won the Kolkata Derby against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant after four long years in the group stage. However, their joy was didn’t last long as the same rivals pipped them to the Durand Cup trophy.

Insidesport

Hyderabad FC will take the field for the first time this ISL. Their opening match against FC Goa was cancelled due to multiple first team players of both teams being called up for the Asian Games. The absence of matches for the Nizams in first ISL game week might come as a relief for Hyderabad FC new coach Conor Nestor. Thangboi Singto is the acting head coach of Hyderabad FC as Nestor awaits his UEFA pro license.

Joao Victor, the only foreigner to be retained by Hyderabad FC from last season, will lead the side this time around. The Nizams have made some shrewd foreign signings in the form of Jonathan Moya, Joe Knowles and Petteri Pennanen but their lack of preseason can be a worry. The Nizams have only played four practice matches going into the ISL season, winning two. It’ll be interesting to see if the lack of proper pre-season hampers Nizam’s chances to qualify for the next round.
