Tyson Fury is one of the most charismatic characters in the sport. The WBC champion is constantly in the headlines for his achievements in the ring and for the things he says out of it. And ‘The Gypsy King’ has given us another example of this as he took aim at Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand when talking about the Francis Ngannou fight.

Tyson Fury opens up about losing to Francis Ngannou

Fury faced heavy criticism from fans for taking the Ngannou fight. This is because fans wanted to see an undisputed contest between Oleksandr Usyk and Fury. However, ‘The Gypsy King’ made negotiations impossible and months later decided to face Ngannou. However, many questioned the choice and claimed Fury took the easier option.

‘The Gypsy King’ has a different view on this. Speaking to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, in a now-deleted video, Fury explained why Francis Ngannou is not an easy fight. He referenced his size, weight, and the fact that he is a Guinness World Record-certified hardest puncher.

In all of this, Fury could not resist a dig at Ferdinand. He then said, “The biggest risk of all is fighting an MMA fighter and I’m the world heavyweight champion. What happens if he beats me? Ridiculed. It’d be like Manchester United getting beat 7-0 off Liverpool. How do you come back from that?”

This is in reference to one of football’s biggest rivalries between Ferdinand’s Manchester United and Liverpool. Last season, Liverpool beat United 7-0, a result which sent shockwaves across the world. And with a Manchester United legend and supporter in front of him, Fury could not resist.

The pair then saw the funny side of it. However, Fury is right. While Ngannou does not have the same boxing skills, he still poses a huge threat. In addition, while his WBC title is not on the line, Fury still has a lot to lose.

What do you make of these comments from Tyson Fury? Is he right in saying he has a lot to lose against Francis Ngannou?
