Indian Women’s team created history in Asian Games as they won their first ever cricket gold in Asian Games at Pingfeng Cricket Field in Hangzhou on Monday. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side defeated Sri Lanka by 19 runs in final to win its maiden Asiad gold medal in cricket.
Opting to bat, the Women in Blue put 116 runs on the board on a tricky track. Smriti Mandhana (46) and Jemimah Rodrigues (42) were the top scorers for India. In reply, Sri Lanka could only score 97. Young pacer Titas Sadhu took 3/6 to restrict Sri Lanka.

Notably, this was India’s maiden appearance in women’s cricket at the Asiad.
Meanwhile, this was also Harmanpreet Kaur’s 100th game as T20I captain. The Indian skipper has now become only the second women’s cricketer to captain her nation in 100 T20Is after Australia’s Meg Lanning.
