Asian Games: Why didn’t Divyansh Singh Panwar qualify for men’s 10m air rifle final – EXPLAINED

Divyansh Singh Pawar had shot 629.6 points in the qualifying event at the Asian Games.

The Indian shooting contingent on Monday had a glorious start to the proceedings, as the team of Aishwary Pratap Singh, Rudrankksh Patil, and Divyansh Singh Panwar won the gold medal in men’s 10m air rifle team at the Asian Games. They shattered the previous world record held by China, and scored 1893.7 points overall.

While Rudrankksh finished third in the qualification with 632.8 points, Aishwary was in fifth with 631.6 points. Divyansh was in the eighth spot with Islam Satpayev of Khazkstan and yet did not feature in the final. Instead, Satpayev was chosen in the place of the Indian shooter. This perplexed many Indian shooting fans.

But the only reason Divyansh missed out was because only two competitors from one nation could feature in the shooting final of any event. Had Divyansh fared a little better than Aishwary or Rudrankksh, he would have gotten a chance to shoot in the final.

The gold medal went to Lihao Sheng of China (253.3 points) while South Korea’s Hajun Park (251.3 points) bagged the silver.
