Worrying Signs for Australia, Aussies on Five Match losing Streak Ahead of World Cup

We need to sort out a few things, hopefully we turn it around in the next game," said Australia stand-in skipper Steve Smith.

Team Australia suffered second straight series defeat and their fifth consecutive ODI loss on September 24 (Sunday). Facing India, the Men in Yellow lacked in all three departments of the game as the Men in Blue won the match by 99 runs through DLS method in Indore. With the World Cup coming up fast, the mighty Aussies have some thinking to do before they face Rohit Sharma and Co. in their opening encounter of the marquee event.

Australia previously lost to South Africa in an ODI series

It must be noted that Australia had previously faced South Africa in a five-match ODI series. Despite having a lead of 2-0, the Australians managed to lose their all three next games against the Proteas. Coming in India, the visitors faced the Men in Blue in Mohali and lost that match with some key players missing.

Just like the first ODI, the Aussies were missing some important players in their line-up including their skipper Pat Cummins. After winning the toss, Steve Smith opted to have a bowl first. However, the Indian batting unit took the attack against the visitors to post a mammoth 399 on the board. In the end, it was all too easy for the Indians as the spinners spun their web around the Australian batters.

Australia last five ODI results:

  • IND vs AUS 2nd ODI (Lost by 99 Runs)
  • IND vs AUS 1st ODI (Lost by 5 wickets)
  • SA vs AUS 5th ODI (Lost by 122 runs)
  • SA vs AUS 4th ODI (Lost by 164 runs)
  • SA vs AUS 3rd ODI (Lost by 111 runs)

We have lost quite a few (matches) in a row, in South Africa and here. We need to sort out a few things, hopefully we turn it around in the next game. We have a few days now, we are working towards the World Cup, both the teams are. Hopefully we’ll turn it around in the last game,” said Australia’s stand-in skipper Steve Smith.

The Aussies will now take on India in the third and final match of the series set to be played in Rajkot on September 27. This might be their last chance to settle their playing XI and get into some kind of winning form before the all-important event.
