EXCLUSIVE: ‘Unfortunate to miss the bus’, Anjum Chopra on Yuzvendra Chahal’s WC snub

In an exclusive interview with Insidesport, Anjum Chopra opened up about Team India's World Cup squad and Yuzvendra Chahal's absence.

Former Indian womens’ team skipper Anjum Chopra has called Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from World Cup 2023 squad as “unfortunate”. In an exclusive interview with Insidesport, Anjum opened up about the Team India’s World Cup squad and said that it was unfortunate that the leg-spinner missed the bus.

“It’s always a tough call when selecting a squad. I thought Yuzvendra Chahal could have been drafted but in whose place he would have come? He’s just unfortunate to miss the bus and not for his own fault”, Anjum said.

The legendary women’s team player also talked about Sanju Samson’s absence from Asia Cup and World Cup squad and said that with Ishan Kishan performing, Team India now has a great luxury to pick between two young & talented wicketkeepers.

“I think the fact that we are fortunate to have the luxury of selecting from three or four players. I think that’s a great luxury to have”, Anjum said.

When asked about whether it would be difficult for Samson to now find a place in squad, Anjum claimed that it is not difficult for anyone to find a spot as the Men in Blue play a lot of matches in different formats.

“It is not difficult for anyone to find their spot in the team at all. The number of matches in between players, the number of opportunities are there for the players. They’re all playing. They’re not short of matches”, the former Indian skipper said.

When asked which team she wants to see in final alongside India, Anjum refused to pick any favourites and said that she just wants Team India to do well.

“We all want India to do well, especially in a World Cup at home. The opposition doesn’t matter; any team that reaches the final has performed exceptionally. All participating teams are strong. Let’s hope for an exciting tournament and support our team”, Anjum concluded.
