Jamaica misses out as ICC confirms 7 Caribbean venues for T20 World Cup 2024

Nine months before T20 World Cup 2024, ICC has confirmed all venues in US & West Indies. The 20-team tournament starts on June 4 with the final on June 30.

There will be no T20 World Cup 2024 games in Jamaica. With the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirming all the venues for T20 WC in US & Caribbean, it’s out that Jamaica will miss out. Instead, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago will host World Cup matches. ICC had earlier confirmed three venues in the USA – Dallas, Florida and New York. The shortest format will begin on June 4 with the final on June 30. New York will host the big India vs Pakistan clash.

T20 World Cup 2024 will be bigger and better. Instead of usual 16 teams, the tournament has now expanded to 20 teams. While 15 spots have already been confirmed, five places are still up for grabs. The US & the West Indies booked their places as the hosts. Top eight teams from T20 WC 2022 have also earned automatic qualification. Bangladesh and Afghanistan booked their places as per ICC rankings. Ireland and Scotland qualified through the T20 WC qualifiers while Papua New Guinea also sealed their spot from the East Asia-Pacific Qualifiers.

Americas, Asia and Africa qualifiers will now determine the remaining five slots.

“We’re delighted to announce the seven Caribbean venues that will host the biggest T20 World Cup ever. 20 teams will be competing for the trophy. They’re all popular venues with players and fans alike that will provide a wonderful backdrop to the event,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said.

“This will be the third ICC senior men’s event hosted by the West Indies. The matches will again give cricket fans the unique experience of enjoying cricket in the Caribbean. I’d like to thank Cricket West Indies and the seven host governments for their continued commitment and support of our sport.”
