Just in time! KL Rahul rekindles fans’ World Cup hopes with ‘Klassy’ fifty in IND vs AUS 1st ODI

KL Rahul slams 'KLassy' fifty to guide India to a dominant win in IND vs AUS 1st ODI

Forged by fire, KL Rahul shines brightly. A hundred in the Asia Cup and now a classy fifty in IND vs AUS 1st ODI sealed India’s fate. Yet again, India becomes the number 1 ranked among all three game formats. Coming back from his injury, KL Rahul has been at his finest. Against Pakistan, he slammed his 6th ODI hundred and now against Australia, he registered his 14th ODI fifty in a mighty run chase for the Men in Blue.

With just a few weeks remaining before the World Cup 2023, these are highly positive signs for the Indian Cricket Team. KL Rahul who was out with a hamstring injury back in March went under the knife. He had a niggle just before the Asia Cup and didn’t travel to Sri Lanka for the group-stage games.

But a back spasm for Shreyas Iyer opened the gates of fortune for KL Rahul. On came the LSG skipper and he made a strong case to cement his spot in the Indian middle-order line-up. While the middle order has been quite shaky for Rohit Sharma and Co, KL Rahul’s strong innings will give a huge sigh of relief to the BCCI Selectors.

On a day when Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan failed to score big runs, KL Rahul stitched a strong partnership with Suryakumar Yadav to guide India to victory and take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. With 4 fours and 1 six to end the game, KL remained unbeaten 58 from 63 balls to secure a good win for the Men in Blue.

India de-throne Pakistan, become No. 1 across formats with win in IND vs AUS 1st ODI

“Not the first time, always happens with me. I’m used to it, I love it. I think the intensity in the afternoon was great, after Colombo this felt like heaven in the start but it was really hot and humid. It gets tough and physically challenging, but we’ve all worked on our fitness and that’s showing on the field. We only played five bowlers, so they had to bowl 10 overs,” said KL Rahul.

“After Shubman got out, it was a bit tricky with the set batter out. But managed to build a good partnership with Surya, need to put myself in such challenging situations. (On partnership with Surya) We kept talking about hitting good cricket shots, rotating the strike and this is something all our batters are working on. We didn’t want to get bogged down, we were always on par so we wanted to take it deep,” he concluded.
