Before the ISL 2023–24 season opener in Kochi between Kerala Blasters and Bengaluru FC, KBFC issues a warning about the Nipah Virus outbreak.

Ahead of their ISL 2023-24 opener against Bengaluru FC, Kerala Blasters have issued a caution notice for the fans. Following an outrageous Nipah Virus outbreak in Kozhikode, KBFC requested the fans wear their masks as they attend the game. Nipah is a rare but deadly bat-borne virus that can cause human fever, vomiting, and respiratory illnesses. Seizures and encephalitis (brain inflammation) can occur in severe cases, resulting in a coma. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the virus has a death rate of 40-75%. There is no known vaccination, and the main therapy is supportive care.

The Kerala health ministry has implemented mass testing to halt the spread of the deadly Nipah virus. It has killed two individuals in Kerala’s southern state. Last week, public meetings were restricted, and several schools were closed. It is the region’s fourth epidemic since 2018.

A general alert was issued for Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad, Thrissur and Palakkad districts on Monday. With the JLN stadium expected to be full, the Kerala Blasters authority have requested the fans to wear mask inside the stadium.
