Asian Games: Indian Rowers begin campaign with impressive starts in heats

In the Lightweight Men's Doubles Skulls and Men's Doubles skulls, the Men's pair finished second in the heats

The Indian Rowing team began the Asian Games campaign in China with impressive performances on Wednesday. Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh, competing in Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls, securing the second position in the heats. Their compatriots Satnam Singh and Parminder Singh also finished second in their respective Heat.

In the Lightweight Men’s Light-weight Doubles sculls, Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh finished with a time of 6:27.45. They finished behind Chinese duo Junjie Fan and Man Sun.

Meanwhile in the Men’s Doubles skulls Satnam Singh and Parminder Singh also produced a good result. The duo ended up in the second spot behind China’s Zhiyu Liu and Liang Zhang. Both the pairs will next compete in the the Repechage round for a place in the final.

Women’s Rowing team also opened their account at the Asiad on a positive note. Indian Lightweight Women’s Double Sculls duo Kiran and Anshika Bharti secured the spot in their Heat by clocking a time of 7:27.57. They ended up in the fourth place.

In the Men’s Doubles coxless, India’s Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram finished third by registering a timing of 6:42.59. The Men’s eight team with cox impressed in the heats. They finished in the second spot by clocking 5.38.65.

The Indian sailing team is set to participate in 12 out of the 14 sailing events on the roster of the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou. Action in the Men’ Singles Skulls, Men’s Quadruple skulls, Women’s Eight with Cox and Men’s four without cox will get underway in the evening session.
