Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah is likely to miss ODI World Cup 2023 after scans revealed that the injury to his right shoulder is worse than anticipated. According to ESPNcricinfo, the scans from tests in Dubai showed serious damage that could rule the pacer out for the rest of year. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seeking a second opinion.
Naseem walked off the field in the 46th over during IND vs PAK Super 4 clash and was ruled out of the Asia Cup later.
PCB on Saturday released an official statement on Naseem Shah’s injury.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board’s medical team has been monitoring the status of Naseem Shah’s shoulder injury sustained during the Asia Cup 2023. Medical consultations with the experts are underway to provide the best possible care to Naseem.
The PCB medical panel will decide on the fast bowler’s return to cricket based on further assessments”, PCB said in official statement.
While initially it was hinted that the 20-year-old will miss first few games of the World Cup, the latest scans have revealed that graveness of the injury.
Apart from the World Cup 2023, Naseem Shah is likely to miss the Test series in Australia, as well as the next Pakistan Super League if secondary results back up the initial ones.
Zaman Khan possible replacement for Naseem Shah?
With Naseem Shah likely to be out of World Cup, Pakistan might include pacer Zaman Khan in the squad. The youngster impressed in his debut match in PAK vs SL and almost defended 8 runs in the final over of the innings.
However, experienced campaigner Hasan Ali might also be considered for the tournament.
Pakistan will begin their World Cup 2023 campaign on October 6 against Netherlands. They will face India in a blockbuster clash on October 14 in Ahmedabad.
