Amid the uncertain future of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood in the last few hours of the Summer Transfer Window, there stood an English midfielder who pushed Greenwood for a move to La Liga. Jude Bellingham, who himself moved to La Liga’s Real Madrid this summer, encouraged his ‘friend’ to follow a similar path. Greenwood completed a move to Getafe on loan in the dying hours of the transfer window.
Manchester United dropped Greenwood from their squad over domestic abuse allegations in January 2022.
The club took the decision to not reintegrate Greenwood into the team of Erik ten Hag this summer. The decision came following criticism from fans in the summer of 2023. The club further promised to assist him in the search for a new direction for his career.

Greenwood’s transfer to Getafe was completed in the final minutes of the final day of the transfer window. He has since begun pre-season training with the club. He will be returning to competitive football after 19 months.
Jose Bordalas, who took charge of Getafe in April this year, has declared that the signing of the Greenwood was a “surprise”.
Bordalas is confident that he can be of assistance to the club, who finished just outside the relegation zone in the previous season.
“Greenwood is friends with Bellingham, and he advised him to come to the Spanish league,” he revealed to Radio Marca, divulging further details about the deal.
“It was a surprise, we never thought we could get a player like that.
“But they got in touch with our sporting director (Ruben Reyes), we talked, we didn’t think it could happen but both sides made an effort,” he said.
