Why 1889 and 1911 are the two names for the stands?

The answer is very simple, these two are the most vital years that have been etched in the history of this centenarian club. Arguably the oldest club in Asia, the Green and Maroon Club is 134 years old.

On the 15th of August 1889, the club was founded, then known as Mohun Bagan Sporting Club. Bhupendra Nath Basu was adjudged as the first president of the club.

With the country growing tired of the British Raj, it was Mohun Bagan who first defeated the British. On 29 July 1911, (now known as Mohun Bagan day), Mohun Bagan became the first club in the history of the country to win the IFA Shield. From playing with bare feet to defeating a British side, the East Yorkshire Regiment, Mohun Bagan etched their name in the golden pages of history.

Therefore it is specifically for these 2 reasons that these years are extremely important for the club and thus paying tribute to the history of the Mariners, the club has decided to rename the two stands of the YBK.
