Youngster Tilak Varma failed to get going in his debut match against Bangladesh on September 15 (Friday). The left-handed batter played a lovely shot to stroke his first boundary in ODIs. However, the Southpaw was scalped by pacer Tanzim Hasan as Varma tried to leave a delivery which castled his stumps.

Coming out to bat after the fall of Rohit, Tilak looked in control of his innings. The left-handed batter also played a lovely flick to collect his first boundary. However, Tanzim came back strongly and bowled a fuller delivery outside the off-stump which jagged back and took Tilak’s stumps with it.
The left-handed batter could only managed to score 5 runs in 9 balls before getting dismissed. Notably, Tanzim also scalped Tilak during the final match of the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2020. The Bangla Tigers went on to defeat India in that game and clinch their first U-19 WC title.
With India set to take on Sri Lanka in the final of Asia Cup, it is likely that Tilak will be dropped from the XI to compensate for Virat Kohli. The Men in Blue are set to take Sri Lanka in the final of marquee event on September 17 (Sunday).
