Rohit Sharma set to break MS Dhoni’s record for most win as captain in Asia Cup

Rohit Sharma is just two wins away from breaking the all-time record held by MS Dhoni.

With India having already reached the Asia Cup 2023 Final, Rohit Sharma will have an eye on MS Dhoni’s record of most wins as captain in the ODI Asia Cup. With two matches remaining (IND vs BAN on September 15 and the Final on September 17), the Indian skipper will look to overtake ‘captain cool’ and maintain his squeaky clean record in the multi-nation tournament.

Most win as captain in ODI Asia Cup

Currently, former Indian skipper MS Dhoni holds the record for most wins as captain in the ODI Asia Cup. While Dhoni claimed his 9 wins as skipper in five editions of the tournaments, Rohit has gained 8 wins as skipper in just two editions (2018 and 2023).

No captain who has led his side in nine or more matches has a better win percentage (88.88) in the event than Rohit Sharma. Such is the Indian opener’s record that he has suffered no loss in the event.

If Rohit is able to win the next two matches that Team India is slated to play on September 15 and 17, he will become the most successful captain in Asia Cup history.

With 9 wins, only Arjuna Ranatunga and MS Dhoni are ahead of Rohit but have captained their sides in four and five matches, respectively.
