Mushfiqur Rahim, a key player in the Bangladesh cricket team, had earlier returned to Bangladesh to attend the birth of his second child immediately after the match against Sri Lanka. Given the situation, the BCB granted Mushfiqur an extension of leave to prioritize his family during this crucial time.

BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Mohammed Jalal Yunus expressed understanding and empathy, stating, “Mushfiqur has informed us that his wife Jannatul Kifayet Mondi is still recovering, and he needs to be by her side and with their children at this time. We fully understand his situation and have decided to permit him to skip the game.”

Bangladesh are already out of Asia Cup 2023

Meanwhile, BAN skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who also returned home with Mushfiqur after their defeat against Sri Lanka on September 9, rejoined the team in Colombo on Wednesday. They will wrap up the campaign with the India game, before preparing for a three-match series against New Zealand at home next week.

As mentioned above, the Tigers are already knocked out of the competition after losing their first two Super 4s match against Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively. Shakib and Co. will look to restore some pride in the upcoming match against India. However, that may not come as easy against a well-oiled Indian side. The match will take place on September 15 (Friday) in Colombo.
