Sean Strickland: Most controversial remarks by the UFC Middleweight champion

Sean Strickland has one of the most distinctive and unpredictable personalities in MMA. His most outrageous remarks have stirred up controversy and received media attention

Sean Strickland enters the space sporting a white T-shirt with the words “CANCEL ME” written across the front in large block letters.

The controversial American did a respectable job of attempting to achieve that over the course of the next hour or so of his UFC 293 media appearance.

The 31-year-old, faced Israel Adesanya in the main event on Sunday in Sydney, touched on a variety of topics, including domestic abuse, women’s sports, hurling beer bottles at police and even invading the US Capitol Building.

Strickland is well known for his blunt and opinionated demeanour. He has even engaged in a public verbal altercation with Adesanya before UFC 276. Given his propensity for giving scathing criticisms, interviewing Strickland can be intimidating for many. Interviewers have been put on edge by the fighter’s ability to talk up a storm and communicate his ideas without holding back.

Strickland took to Twitter to reveal a curious incident involving the UFC. He wrote, “Just knocked out some great interviews with the UFC… The moment I walked away….. DELETE LMAO! I tried.”

Strickland’s comment on women has attracted the most scrutiny and condemnation.

Strickland says “women shouldn’t work, shouldn’t vote and “belong at home raising kids.”

Sean Strickland has been heard expressing his desire to attack Dana White in the face, his disinterest in bullying children, and even his characterization of MMA fighters as stupid monkeys. After his debut at UFC 276, he was also forbidden from doing further news conferences. Up until lately, when he received an opportunity at the crown that was richly deserved.

In UFC 293 press conference Sean Strickland said, “I want to be a Serial Killer, but I don’t want to go to Jail”

Other statements include:

“I’m a functioning Sociopath”

“I don’t care about Legacy; I just want to get Paid”

“I don’t care about my opponent’s Life”

Unquestionably, Sean Strickland has one of the most distinctive and unpredictable personalities in MMA. His most outrageous remarks have stirred up controversy and received media attention, but they also reveal his forthright and unrepentant personality.
