Israel Adesanya UFC 294 Loss: Where did it all go wrong?

If you are a superstitious UFC fan, then things were not looking good for Adesanya from the beginning. The UFC revealed their new video game, UFC 5, with Israel Adesanya on the cover. And there have been several examples in the past of UFC fighters on the cover of the video game, losing their next fight. And it appears as though the curse continued.

Moreover, Adesanya also had to deal with the ‘Drake curse.’ Sports fans have noticed a pattern where the side that famous rapper Drake bets on always loses. And Drake bet a massive $500,000 on Adesanya to knock out Sean Strickland. It looks like the ‘Drake cruse’ struck again.

In addition to this, at UFC 193, which was in Australia, Holly Holm shocked the world with a stunning knockout of Ronda Rousey, who was famous for her knockout power. And now, at UFC 293, also in Australia, Sean Strickland out-struck Adesanya, who is one of the best strikers in the sport. This is another eyebrow-raising coincidence.

And although this is not the first time Israel Adesanya has lost in the UFC, the nature of the defeat is what surprised most fans. Against Jan Blachowicz, Adesanya moved up in weight and faced a much bigger fighter. Moreover, Blachowicz has much better wrestling and used it to his advantage.

Against Alex Pereira, Adesanya was winning the fight on the scorecard. However, Pereira has incredible power and the Brazilian clearly had Adesanya’s number. He landed perfectly and knocked out Adesanya. However, this time, Strickland almost beat Adesanya at his own game. Moreover, it’s not like Strickland got into the New Zealander’s head before the fight. Adesanya showed no signs of giving in to the trash talk.

Therefore, all these signs make Israel Adesanya’s defeat at UFC 294 all the more shocking. And while we have to credit Sean Strickland for an amazing performance, we must also consider the fact that the stars aligned perfectly.

Although all indications suggest that McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) must first re-enter the USADA testing programme, which necessitates two clean tests spread over six months, before stepping into the cage, he still lists Dec. 16 as the target date for his next bout.

Since The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 31’s premiere broadcast, McGregor has been on-and-off about a fight with Michael Chandler. The fact that the show was on everyone’s mind at the beginning made it very heated, but as the weeks passed, the Irish superstar changed his mind (a few times), and most recently, he wanted to combat the new “BMF.”

The UFC’s president, Dana White, told fight fans earlier this week that McGregor will definitely face Chandler next.

That was confirmed by McGregor during the same interview.
