Shoaib Akhtar takes brutal dig at Babar Azam after rain washes out IND vs PAK

Shoiab Akhtar criticized Babar Azam for not choosing to bat against India in Asia Cup Super 4 clash despite the conditions being perfect for batting in Colombo

Shoaib Akhtar is known to talk straight, without mincing words, and this time also, it was no different when he said rain saved Pakistan during the Super 4 clash against India. The former Pakistan fast bowler criticized skipper Babar Azam after winning the toss despite the pitch being batting-friendly in Colombo. India openers raced to a solid start, notching a 100-run partnership inside 20 overs. At the time of the rain interruption, India were placed 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs.

Akhtar stated that rain helped India during the group stage fixture of the Asia Cup, and this time it has helped Pakistan in the Super 4 stage. “Hey guys, it’s me Shoaib, match dekhne aaya tha, hum sare fans bhi wait kar rahe hai, Indians bhi Pakistani bhi. Lekin barish ne bacha liya humein, finally! Pehle India phass gya tha humare aagey, barish ne bacha lia. Aaj hum has gaye the India ke samne, shukr hai barish ne bach lia.

(I came to watch the match, we are all waiting, Indian and Pakistani fans. Rain saved us, rain saved India the other day, but today rain saved us!),” Akhtar was heard saying in the video that has gone viral on social media.

“We will be able to resume this game tomorrow at the same position and by making a wise decision not to bowl first,” he added.

While rain helped Pakistan on Sunday, the same cannot be said on Monday, as the conditions are expected to be overcast and gloomy. India have got a great start, and it is up to Virat Kohli and KL Rahul to consolidate. India will resume at 147 for 2 after Azam decided to put India to bat after winning the toss.

An extra day was a last-minute addition to the Super Four clash — the only game to get the advantage other than the final — after a previous group meeting between the two teams was washed out due to rain in Pallekele.
