Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam has come up through the ranks in last few years. The star batter, who started as one of the promising young talents, is now among the modern greats and has become the fifth member of ‘Fab’ list. The 28-year-old has been featured in the “Fab 5” batters in World Cup 2023 promo by official broadcaster Star Sports.
In a 20-second promo shared by Star Sports on social media, old clips of ‘Fab 5 batters’ in action were shown with line, “World’ best batters vying for cricket’s greatest glory.”
“Fast. Ferocious. Fantastic. Fierce. Fabled. ⚡
Words will fall short in describing the FAB 5 when they spring into action!”, Star Sports captioned the post.

What is ‘Fab 5’?
The term was earlier called ‘Fab 4’ and was suggested by late New Zealand cricketer Martin Crowe. The list included the likes of Virat Kohli (India), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Steve Smith (Australia), and Joe Root (England). However, Babar Azam has now been included in the elite list, making it ‘Fab 5’.
Final ODI World Cup for Fab 4?
This might be the last ODI World Cup where fans will see ‘Fab 4’ featuring together. Virat Kohli (34), Kane Willamson (33), Steve Smith (34) and Joe Root (32) have reached the twilight of their careers and will be above 36 by the next World Cup. And with the increasing work load and schedule, the Fab 4 are unlikely to feature in ODIs for the next ICC event.
