With the huge rush and limited availability of tickets for the high-octane India vs Pakistan (IND vs PAK) World Cup 2023 ticket, fans have been frustrated. Those who could not secure their tickets in the two windows opened by BookMyShow have looked for resellers but with IND vs PAK WC tickets going up to Rs 57 lakh, they have only tasted disappointment. But fans won’t give up. Some of the fans have reached Ahmedabad from all over India to check at the Narendra Modi Stadium box office. One of them travelled over 2000 km to check for one.
Kaushik, a fan from Ahmedabad, was one of those who reached the stadium to check whether tickets are available at the stadium box office.
“I stay just behind the stadium. I am trying to book a ticket online but still have not managed to do so. I hope they open the offline counter also,” Kaushik told Rising Kashmir.
Fan travels 2000km for tickets
If fan craze had any limits! A fan named Avinash travelled more than 2,000 kilometres from Odisha to Ahmedabad for tickets. After failing to buy tickets online, he decided to visit the stadium for IND vs PAK tickets.
“The match is on the 14th. I have travelled 2,000 kilometres to watch the match. I will do anything to get these tickets,” Avinash told to Rising Kashmir.
Another fan named Prakash also travelled from Odisha for the all-important match ticket.
“I have come from Odisha, we will have to go home disappointed if I am unable to get a ticket,” he said.
Chasing IND vs PAK tickets
In the staggered ticket sales, fans had two windows to get their hands on World Cup 2023 tickets. However, in both windows on BookMyShow, fans met with disappointment. Technical glitch, huge rush culminated in even hilarious 6-year waiting time for some on the BookMyShow website.
Taking advantage of that, ticket black-marketing has reached new heights. Some of the resellers (illegal in India) are selling IND vs PAK tickets for Rs 58 lakh almost. Then, there are some who are selling at 10,000% mark-up on Facebook marketplace and other social media platforms.
Seeing demand for World Cup 2023 tickets, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced 4 lakh additional tickets. But instead of BookMyShow, it has chosen ICC’s own platform to sell those additional tickets. Fans can queue up online at 8 AM (IST) onwards on September 8.
ICC had earlier announced the sale of tickets for all the warm-up and league matches for India and non-India matches. Fans however were left utterly disappointed over the experience with social media flooded with posts against BCCI and ticket partner BookMyShow.
World Cup 2023 begins on October 5 in Ahmedabad with the final on November 19.
