‘He Beat Fedor’- Mike Tyson & Real BMF Jorge Masvidal Can’t Stop Praising Ex UFC Champion

Ahead of Junior Dos Santos vs Fabricio Verdum, Mike Tyson and Jorge Masvidal gave their opinion on the latter. Here's what they said.

Mike Tyson is arguably one of the most feared men in combat sports. The former heavyweight champion built a reputation for being one of the scariest fighters in history. On the other hand, Jorge Masvidal is one of the most fearless men in recent MMA history. However, both have now shown their appreciation of Fabricio Werdum.

Mike Tyson and Jorge Masvidal give their opinion on Fabricio Werdum

Masvidal recently joined Mike Tyson for an episode on his podcast, ‘Hotboxin with Mike Tyson.’ The pair spoke about a whole host of topics, from fighting to life. And during one such conversation, Fabricio Werdum came up.

Speaking about the Brazilian, Masvidal said, “Werdum on the ground, he’s a world champion man. He’s a, I think, maybe two or three time world champion.” Tyson then recalled his famous win and said, “I remember he beat Fedor. Fedor was the top thing in the world. Everyone around the world sorta heard that.”

Therefore, these comments from the pair show their admiration and respect for Werdum. The Brazilian is someone who doesn’t necessarily get the recognition he deserves in the sport. However, Tyson and Masvidal made sure to give credit where it was due.

How good was Fabricio Werdum?

Werdum competed from 2002, all the way up to 2021. The jiu-jitsu specialist had some impressive wins and exciting contests in his long career. The Fedor fight was arguably his biggest win. However, he also held the UFC title for a while between 2014 to 2016.

Werdum challenged Mark Hunt for the title in 2014 after racking up four impressive wins in the division. And the Brazilian shocked the world when he knocked out Hunt in the second round to become the champion. However, after just one defense, he lost the title to Stipe Miocic.

Despite this, his record is very impressive. Werdum finished with a 24-9-1 record. However, what really stands out is that 12 of these 24 wins came through submissions. Thus making him one of the most feared grapplers at the time.

So there you have it. This is why Mike Tyson, and Jorge Masvidal have so much respect for Fabricio Werdum. What do you make of Werdum’s career? What is your best memory of the former UFC heavyweight champion?

Although all indications suggest that McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) must first re-enter the USADA testing programme, which necessitates two clean tests spread over six months, before stepping into the cage, he still lists Dec. 16 as the target date for his next bout.

Since The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 31’s premiere broadcast, McGregor has been on-and-off about a fight with Michael Chandler. The fact that the show was on everyone’s mind at the beginning made it very heated, but as the weeks passed, the Irish superstar changed his mind (a few times), and most recently, he wanted to combat the new “BMF.”

The UFC’s president, Dana White, told fight fans earlier this week that McGregor will definitely face Chandler next.

That was confirmed by McGregor during the same interview.
