“Without Hope”, Michael Schumacher’s friend gives devastating health update

Among the few close aides that have been kept in the know-how about Schumacher's condition, prominent F1 journalist Roger Benoit is one of them.

Come December, a decade will pass since Michael Schumacher suffered a skiing accident in the French Alps. The F1 driver has been in coma since and there’s very little chance he’ll wake up anytime soon if his close friend is to be believed.

Information surrounding Schumacher’s current condition have been sparse. His wife Corinna Schumacher has maintained a strict policy of preserving her husband’s privacy, allowing only family and close friends to be informed of the facts.

One of the greatest ever Formula 1 drivers, Schumacher won seven world titles and inspired several generations of racing superstars to take up the sport. Such was his success and fame that he transcended the sport to become a global icon.

Schumacher has primarily stayed in the family home on Lake Geneva since a few months after the accident. He is taken care of by doting wife Corinna and a team of medical staff.

Prominent F1 journalist Roger Benoit is among the few close aides that have been kept in the know-how about Schumacher’s condition. Schumacher would smoke cigars with the Swiss on a regular basis after races. The scribe got to know Schumacher as a person, not just as racer.

The Blick asked Benoit if he could shed any light on Schumacher’s condition and recovery, he simply replied: “No. There is only one answer to this question and that is what his son Mick gave in one of his rare interviews in 2022, ‘I would give anything to talk to dad.’

“This sentence says everything about how his father has been doing for over 3500 days. A case without hope”, Benoit said.

Benoit admits there was a time when he did not speak to Schumacher after disagreements – but he is thankful that they reconciled after the 2011 Japanese GP.
