Italian GP Qualifying Live: Italian GP Live: Formula 1 Live: Friday was a frantic day at the Italian GP. We will have the alternate format in Italian GP Qualifying this weekend. This means the teams have a different tyre allocation this weekend. Red Bull and Max Verstappen looked strong like they have in Formula 1 all year. Ferrari looked extremely quick, especially with Carlos Sainz.
Free Practice 1 Highlights
With the different tyre allocation, most teams chose to run with only one compound at the Italian GP. The Alfa Romeos had a tough session. Both drivers experienced anti-stall earlier, and set-up problems later on. The McLarens looked a bit draggy.
Ferrari gave a big scare to the Tifosi as Charles Leclerc sat out for a large part of the session. At the chequered flag, Max Verstappen was quickest in FP1 at the Italian GP. Carlos Sainz was second and Sergio Perez finished third. Charles Leclerc and George Russell rounded off the top 5.

Free Practice 2 Highlights
Formula 1 have chosen one step softer tyre compounds compared to last year for the Italian GP. A lot of cars could be seen sliding around on the soft tyres, while the medium tyres offered more grip. The McLaren dropped the drag this session and looked strong.
The second half of FP2 at the Italian GP saw teams go for slightly longer runs. This also caused a lot of traffic for many drivers, especially in Sector 2. Having been replaced by Felipe Drugovich in FP1, Lance Stroll lost power before setting a single time in FP2. Sergio Perez caused a second red flag towards the end of the session as he went off at Parabolica.
Carlos Sainz was quickest in FP2, capping off a brilliant Friday for Ferrari at the Italian GP. Lando Norris finished second, with his teammate Oscar Piastri in fourth. Perez found himself in the McLaren sandwich in 3rd, while Max Verstappen completed the top 5. Mercedes struggled massively during FP2 and will be looking to make changes overnight.
