Rivals turn friends as Kohli greets nemesis Shaheen, Haris Rauf before IND vs PAK

Notably, this was their first meeting after T20 World Cup 2022 clash where Kohli's twin sixes off Haris Rauf changed the game towards India's favour.

Asia Cup 2023: The stage is set for another IND vs PAK as both arch rivals square off against each other on Saturday in the Asia Cup 2023. Both Team India and Pakistan trained together at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on the eve of the big game. However, the highlight of the training session was the meeting of Virat Kohli and Pakistan pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. Notably, this was their first meeting after T20 World Cup 2022 clash where Kohli’s twin sixes off Haris Rauf changed the game towards India’s favour.

In the video shared by a fan, Kohli was seen shaking hands and hugging Haris Rauf in the ground. The duo chatted for few minutes before resuming their respective training.

The former Indian skipper was later seen in Pakistan’s dug-out, shaking hands with Shaheen Afridi and chatting with Shadab Khan and few others.

Notably, this was Virat Kohli’s first meet with the Pakistan team after the T20 World Cup, where he led Men in Blue to a remarkable win.

Virat Kohli smashed an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls and took India home with a thrilling finish.

The highlight of the 34-year-old’s special innings was his twin sixes against Haris Rauf in the penultimate over which changed the game.

Rauf later opened up about Kohli’s iconic six and said that such shots are a rare thing in cricket and the former Indian skipper won’t be able to play that shot again.

“Of course, it hurt when that went for a six. I didn’t say anything but it hurt me personally. I thought something wrong had happened. Anyone who knows cricket knows what sort of a player he is. He has played that shot now; I don’t think he can do that again. Such shots are quite rare, you can’t hit them again and again. His timing was perfect, and it went for a six,” said Rauf on Pakistan’s popular show ‘Hasna Mana Hai’.

Fans will be hoping for another battle between the two in the IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023 clash on Friday.
