Youngster Dewald Brevis stepped made his T20I debut against Australia on Wednesday (August 30). Brevis who is known for his aggressive nature of the batting recieved a rousing applause on the social media after getting his debut cap. Bestowing upon him his inaugural cap was none other than the South African veteran, Hashim Amla. While this epochal event unfurled, eyes sequestered miles away across the vast Indian Ocean riveted on the spectacle—those eyes being of Indian cricketers Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.
Ever since ending as the top run-scorer in the U19 World Cup a year ago, Brevis steadily climbed up the ladders plying his trade in franchise T20 cricket including the IPL, where he played for Mumbai Indians alongside his India U19 compatriot Tilak Varma.
The two became good friends and when Tilak Varma made his India debut in West Indies recently, Brevis shared a heartwarming message for his friend, wishing him the best of luck. Brevis recently captured attention when he smashed 162 in 57 balls for Titans against Knights in the CSA T20 challenge, which included 13 fours and 13 sixes to his name.
After waiting 18 months for his chance, Brevis was included in the South African squad for the 3-match T20I series and was handed his debut cap by Hashim Amla.
Tilak Varma, who is in Sri Lanka with the Indian team for the Asia Cup, watched Brevis getting his South Africa cap on TV and smiled at the moment the youngster put on the Proteas cap, as Mumbai Indians teammate Suryakumar Yadav recorded the moment.\
