KL Rahul bats in nets despite niggle, no keeping yet as IND vs PAK clash looms

It is a race against time for KL Rahul who will be eager to get fit ahead of IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023 match which is set to take place on September 2.

Star batsman KL Rahul batted in nets for couple of hours in Team India’s ongoing Asia Cup camp in Bengaluru. However, the 31-year-old stayed away from wicketkeeping and fielding drills due to niggle. Notably, it is a race against time for KL Rahul who is pushing hard to get fit ahead of IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023 match set to take place on September 2.

Notably, KL has been out of action since May 2023 due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He underwent surgery in London and underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Rahul was named in the 17-member Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023, starting from August 30. However, he picked up a minor niggle during his recovery process, which raised doubts over his availability for the start of the tournament.

BCCI Chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Rahul is likely to get fit from the second or third match of the Asia Cup.

“That’s why Sanju Samson is at the moment traveling with us. But the physios, I am sure, will get a report, at some stage, they are all expected to be fit. If not at the start of the Asia Cup, probably from the 2nd and 3rd game (Rahul to be fit)“, Agarkar said during Asia Cup squad announcement.

Team India’s Asia Cup camp will conclude on August 29 and the squad will leave for Sri Lanka on August 30. They will start their campaign with IND vs PAK clash on September 2 in Kandy.
