Despite Injury, Northamptonshire eager to rope in Prithvi Shaw for next year

Prithvi Shaw is currently in London and will undergo treatment before flying to India. Shaw turned out for 4 games for Northamptonshire before injury

While Prithvi Shaw’s dream to play a full season of County Championship for Northamptonshire might have ended this year, there is positive news for the youngster as he has been offered a contract for the next year. It took no time for Shaw to display his humungous talent in the County circuit as he slammed a scintillating 129 balls double hundred against Somerset. He backed it with another hundred and grabbed eyeballs with effortless Strokeplay.

However, Shaw’s County stint was cut short due to a Grade 2 PCL injury. Luckily for the 23-year-old, it was not a Grade 3 injury, as that would have required surgery. Since Shaw displayed such a terrific form for Northamptonshire, they are happy to sign him for one more year.

“The Northants have offered Prithvi a contract for the next season. They are extremely happy with him,” a source told Times of India.

In other positive news, Shaw won’t require surgery, and he will stay in England to get his treatment. The result of the scans has revealed that it’s a Grade 2 PCL injury. Grade 2 is not that encouraging, but still better than Grade 3. Things were initially not looking good for Prithvi, but a Grade 2 injury and no need of surgery means he should be back on the field soon,” a source close to the player was quoted as saying by CricketNext.

Initially, we thought he could return to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) or home in Mumbai, but he will be there in the UK for some time at least,” the source added.

It is still not clear whether Shaw will play Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq, with no surgery on cards. Playing the two domestic tournaments will be vital for the 23-year-old as he eyes to make a comeback to the Indian team.
