After winning the Indian Super League 2022-23, Mohun Bagan SG qualified for the AFC Cup 2023-24 qualifications. In May, they also won the subsequent playoff against Hyderabad FC. Mohun Bagan SG, formerly known as ATK Mohun Bagan, and Dhaka Abahani met last year at the same stage. Mohun Bagan advanced to the second round with a 3-1 victory at Salt Lake Stadium. Last season, Mohun Bagan SG won their AFC Cup group but were eliminated in the inter-zone semi-finals.
