Twitter erupts as Spain beat England to clinch maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup

Twitter erupts as La Roja defeats the Lionesses in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 final between Spain and England.

Spain vs England: Spain has won the World Cup for the first time, defeating England 1-0 in Sydney. La Roja’s powerful and tenacious performance was capped off by Olga Carmona’s well-taken score in the first half. Spain dominated not only possession but also the overall game. England made mistakes, and it was a Lucy Bronze giveaway in midfield that allowed Carmona to rifle home a brilliant strike in the 29th minute.

The Lionesses were greatly improved, but this has been true throughout the World Cup. The heroics of Mary Earps kept England in the game. She expertly saved a penalty shot by Jennifer Hermoso. It was awarded following an almost five-minute VAR review for a Keira Walsh handball. Both teams pushed for another goal, but Spain took advantage of their huge moment, while England went too far.
