Lionel Messi on Sunday won his first trophy in United States when Inter Miami got the better of Nashville in the Leagues Cup final. 90 minutes were not enough to separate the sides as the match went into a tie-breaker and then sudden death. Inter Miami prevailed as Nashville missed the 11th spot-kick to hand the trophy to the side co-owned by David Beckham.
Messi scored yet another stunner in the first-half to light up the sold-out crowd in Nashville’s home stadium as chants of ‘Messi, Messi’ revolved around the ground. The fans on social media went gaga, hailing Messi’s impact in the MLS.
Before Messi’s arrival, Inter Miami were on a winless streak in 19 matches. Now, they have won every match since the Argentinian signed for the club.
The fans on social media were abuzz as Messi lifted the trophy. The Argentinian won the Player of the Tournament as well as the Top Scorer’s trophy as the Inter Miami team lifted Messi in the air in a glowing tribute.
While some claimed Messi was the ultimate ‘GOAT’ (greatest of all time), others highlighted Messi’s heart-warming gesture of calling over club’s former captain Yedlin while lifting the trophy.
