Barcelona waited until the very end to score their first La Liga goal. Ilkay Gundogan’s nimble pass allowed Pedri to fend off a tenacious Cadiz side. He sealed the victory, which was subsequently completed by a superb team goal scored by Ferran Torres.

The well-prepared guests appeared on target to pitch under the inspiring leadership of custodian Conan Ledesma. After Barca and Getafe drew 0-0 to start the season, it was a shutout. Real Madrid, the front-runner for the title, put pressure on themselves early by winning at Almeria on Saturday, making it two wins in a row.

Barcelona would have become the first team in La Liga history to start the season 0-2 without scoring. But after passing to Gundogan, Pedri ghosted open in the penalty area. To put the German’s return pass into the goal, he slid. Robert Lewandowski then set up Torres to score the second goal in extra time.

Prior to those goals, Jules Kounde, Lamine Yamal, Oriol Romeu, and Lewandowski all squandered opportunities to give the defending champs an early lead. Ledesma also displayed goaltending prowess that seemed superhuman. The brightest Barcelona star on his debut La Liga start was 16-year-old Yamal in front of barely 39,603 spectators while Camp Nou is being renovated. Except for a goal intervention, he was doing everything.
