The question regarding KL Rahul’s fitness is now the hour’s headline. Is he fit? Will he get a chance in the Asia Cup Squad? Well, the answer is simple, KL Rahul is fit but there remains a doubt if he will get a chance in the Asia Cup squad. If he is fit and still doesn’t have clearance to play, India will have to look for options in the team.
KL Rahul is the designated wicketkeeper of the ODI team. With the Asia Cup squad announcement to take place on 21st August, there remains a big shred of doubt over his selection.
“If KL Rahul doesn’t get fit, and when they need a keeper, they can open with Ishan Kishan. That’s the only possibility because Shreyas Iyer is one of the go-to players for Team India in ODIs as a batter,” Ashwin said in his YouTube channel.
Now if Rahul is unfit for the Asia Cup, India will have to bank on his replacements. Ishan Kishan gets slotted in the team as the number 1 wicketkeeper and Sanju Samson will get his light under the sun as the backup keeper.
Who will be Number 4 for India?
Now herein lies the problem. KL Rahul gets a slot in the team in the middle order. If Shreyas Iyer gets fit he starts at Number 4 while Rahul can come after that. But this lan takes a big hit if Rahul doesn’t get the clearance. Kishan will be the preferred opener in the team with Rohit Sharma.

An opening pair of Rohit-Kishan will see a much preferred right-left-handed combo, while Shubman Gill will have come in at Number 3, and veteran batter Virat Kohli will have to sacrifice his sacred number 3 spot to take the number 4 spot.
“Virat Kohli batted at number 4 in that (2011) World Cup. In fact, Ravi Bhai has mentioned that, if necessary, Virat Kohli should bat at number 4. I think he mentioned that so that we can accommodate a left-hander,” said Ashwin
