Khabib Nurmagomedov Take Down Record Broken By Rising UFC Star In 11 Fights.

MMA superstar and the undefeated former UFC lightweight champion, formerly held the takedown record with 26 takedowns in 2013.

In the UFC in 2020, a fairly unexpected fighter beat Khabib Nurmagomedov’s takedown record. Merab Dvalishvili now holds the record for the most takedowns used in a single UFC bout in a calendar year.

The record for the most takedowns ever achieved by Khabib—61 in 13 fights—has been shattered, with Merab “The Machine” reaching the new mark of 74 in just 11 fights, according to MMA Uncensored.

The UFC fights Merab Dvalishvili participated, in 2020, saw him score 27 takedowns. Dvalishvili holds the record for having the most takedowns successfully executed in a single UFC bout throughout a calendar year thanks to his outstanding efforts during 2020.

Dvalishvili, a UFC bantamweight contender, participated in three UFC fights in 2020. He scored a unanimous decision victory over each of his three opponents. In August 2020, he defeated John Dodson.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, an MMA superstar and the undefeated former UFC lightweight champion, formerly held the takedown record with 26 takedowns in 2013.

By the year 2023, he has acquired a total of 74 takedowns in UFC in just 11 fights, thereby breaking Khabibs record.

MMA Uncensored compared the two fighters in their recent tweet stating, “ Takedowns landed  61- khabib’s first 13 fights 74- Merab’s first 11 fights.”

Though Khabib has left the fighting industry, the name of the champion is still engraved in the hearts and minds of MMA fans, as the tweet went viral, numerous comments were made on the post, let’s check a few of them:

On March 11, 2023, Merab Dvalishvili fought Petr Yan in the main event of UFC Las Vegas. Georgia’s Dvalishvili defeated his Russian adversary by unanimous decision, earning one of the most impressive victories of his career. The fight took place inside The Theatre at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the process, Dvalishvili attempted 49 takedowns over their five rounds of combat, shattering the previous record.
