When Khabib Nurmagomedov Left UFC Cage Girls Disappointed

Khabib Nurmagomedov had many great moments in the UFC. But we look back at one of the unpopular incidents when he went after Arianny Celeste

Khabib Nurmagomedov is arguably one of the biggest stars of the UFC. The former UFC lightweight champion was one of the most dominant champions in the sport. And while he made a lot of friends and enemies among the fighters, he once found himself in the unfamiliar situation of a war of words with the UFC ring girls.

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from the sport in 2021 with a perfect 29-0 record. And for the most part, he was a true professional who focused on his training and improving to become a better champion. Very rarely did Khabib engage in things that did not concern him. However, his comments about the ring girls definitely raised eyebrows.

What did Khabib Nurmagomedov say about Arianny Celeste and the other UFC ring girls?

After retiring from the sport, Khabib set up his own promotion called Eagle FC. And when talking about the possibility of having ring girls for Eagle FC, Khabib said“I think they’re the most useless people in martial arts. What function? How? Do they develop the sport? Or do they help people to see that it is the second round now? What are they doing? Tell me, please.”

Needless to say, this did not go down well with the ring girls. Celeste retorted by expressing her disappointment and said, “I was like, here we go again. I think with Khabib, there are cultural differences. If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say it. But again, I am kind of used to it.”

Other ring girls also shared their dismay at the comments from one of the promotion’s biggest stars. However, they were also quick to point out how they make a difference to the sport and how comments like these do not bother them.

The verbal battle continued for a while on social media through different parties giving their take. Ultimately, the talk about Khabib’s comments on the ring girls died down and people forgot about it. The UFC continues to have ring girls while Eagle FC does not.

What do you make of this situation? Do you think Khabib Nurmagomedov was right?

Although all indications suggest that McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) must first re-enter the USADA testing programme, which necessitates two clean tests spread over six months, before stepping into the cage, he still lists Dec. 16 as the target date for his next bout.

Since The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 31’s premiere broadcast, McGregor has been on-and-off about a fight with Michael Chandler. The fact that the show was on everyone’s mind at the beginning made it very heated, but as the weeks passed, the Irish superstar changed his mind (a few times), and most recently, he wanted to combat the new “BMF.”

The UFC’s president, Dana White, told fight fans earlier this week that McGregor will definitely face Chandler next.

That was confirmed by McGregor during the same interview.
