Canelo Alvarez Responds To Avoiding David Benavidez: ‘Every time’

Canelo fight Benavidez, who is currently the mandatory challenger under the WBC.

Canelo Alvarez has received criticism from David Benavidez for a while now. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, a superstar from Mexico, has refuted claims that he is postponing a matchup with top super middleweight David Benavidez.

Benavidez is the mandatory opponent for Alvarez’s undisputed 168-pound title and the WBC interim super middleweight champion, but “The Mexican Monster” has been forced to wait for Jermell Charlo to move up two weight classes and challenge for Canelo’s four titles on September 30 in Las Vegas.

Canelo signed a three-fight deal with Premier Boxing Champions [PBC], the undisputed 168-pound champion.

The undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo, who jumps up in weight by two divisions, will be the opponent in the opening match of the agreement. On September 30th, that competition will be held in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and Showtime Pay-Per-View will broadcast it.

Most fans want to see Canelo fight Benavidez, who is currently the mandatory challenger under the WBC, assuming he defeats Charlo.

Canelo denies Benavidez’s and his supporters’ assertions that he is trying to avoid the fight.

“Everybody says the same thing all my life,” Alvarez told “The Breakfast Club” on Tuesday about notions of him dodging Benavidez.

“When I fight with [Austin] Trout, they say I’m ducking Trout, when I fight other fighters they say I’m ducking [Gennadiy] Golovkin, I’m ducking Erislandy Lara and everything,” he continued. “Every time I beat every single fighter, they say ‘OK, I have this other fighter.’ They find somebody else.”

Canelo refused to commit to Benavidez becoming an opponent in the three-fight PBC deal when questioned about it.
