Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer, recovering from a back injury, showed kindness by giving money to people in need. Video viral.

Star Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, currently in the process of recuperating from a back injury, displayed a compassionate act on Wednesday. As he was getting into his car, a man with a child approached him seeking assistance. Showing his generous nature, Iyer promptly provided them with money. Not stopping there, he extended the gesture to another individual, handing them some cash as well. A video capturing this heartwarming moment has went viral on social media. Watch it below.

In March, Shreyas Iyer encountered a back injury that led to his exclusion from the team. Following this, the right-handed batter underwent back surgery. Subsequently, Iyer underwent a recovery period at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) over the past several months.

Although the Kolkata Knight Riders captain has recuperated, he has not yet received medical clearance to participate in matches. Despite engaging in practice sessions at the NCA, Iyer, initially expected to return after a four-month injury hiatus, is still grappling with incomplete recovery from his back injury, prompting an extension of his absence from play.

The BCCI is set to reveal the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 on August 20, and a reliable source told TOI that Shreyas Iyer has not completely recovered. His improbable comeback for the Asia Cup, which is just 13 days away, would bring substantial dismay, given India’s ongoing struggle to address the conundrum of the number four position in ODIs.

Suryakumar Yadav attempted to fill in for the role during a significant portion of the 2023 ODI series against Australia and West Indies in Iyer’s absence. However, the top-ranked T20I batter failed to deliver, falling short of surpassing 40 runs in six innings.

“Rahul is by and large fit, and is ‘keeping wickets too, while Shreyas Iyer (operated for a back injury) is not 100 per cent. Both have taken part in match simulations at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and will play a practise match soon. The fitness of the players who have returned from the West Indies will also be assessed by the team and NCA’s physios. Hence the delay in naming the team,” source told TOI.
