Canelo Alvarez Cancels Facing Terence Crawford At 158: ‘Too Small’

Canelo says he has no intention of lowering himself to those weight classes, though. Additionally, he thinks Crawford is much too little to stand up to him at 168.

Canelo Alvarez Cancels Facing Terence Crawford At 158: Boxing News: Terence Crawford had some bad news today when Canelo Alvarez turned down his invitation to compete against him at a catchweight of 158 pounds. Canelo never had a chance of agreeing to melt down to 158 pounds in order to face Crawford at welterweight since the fight might not be profitable if he tried to make the weight.  Follow Boxing News Updates with InsideSports.IN.

Crawford has never demonstrated that he is a PPV draw, and Errol Spence is most likely the reason why his fight with Crawford garnered good ratings.

Canelo will defend his title against undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo, who jumps up in weight by two whole divisions, on September 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Crawford recently stated in an interview that he would be open to fighting Canelo at a catchweight of 160 or 158.

Canelo says he has no intention of lowering himself to those weight classes, though. Additionally, he thinks Crawford is much too little to stand up to him at 168.

Michael Benson also mentioned the same instance in his tweet that stated “ Canelo Alvarez has dismissed Terence Crawford welcoming a 158lbs catchweight fight vs him: “I can’t go down anymore. As he says when they ask him about Gervonta Davis, it’s the same for me. Everybody’s gonna say, ‘He’s too small.’ Nobody’s gonna give me credit for that.”

Canelo Alvarez declines Terence Crawford’s offer of a 158-pound catchweight because “I Can’t Go Down Anymore”

Where Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) got the idea to challenge Canelo at 158 pounds is unknown. If a teammate advised him to flog the notion, he should disregard that counsel going forward because Terence doesn’t have the authority to make decisions regarding Alvarez, especially when it comes to asking him to lose 10 pounds. That is absurd. Crawford’s unwillingness to leave his comfort zone in order to fight Canelo at 168 pounds illustrates why he has failed to establish himself as a PPV star for all these years.
