Rahul Dravid gives this honest assessment after India’s T20 series loss vs WI

With the ODI World Cup approaching, the Indian head coach also pointed out one important area where the men in blue need to improve.

Team India head coach Rahul Dravid gave his honest assessment of West Indies tour after India lost the T20 series 2-3 on Sunday.

With an eight-wicket victory over India in the fifth T20 game on Sunday, West Indies claimed a 3-2 series triumph.

In the fifth T20, India, having dropped the first two games of the series in the Caribbean, opted to bat first and finished with a score of 165/9 at Central Broward Stadium. West Indies responded by reaching the target with 12 balls remaining.

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India, gave a general appraisal of the tour in a statement to the media, noting that it can be challenging to follow formats sometimes. “The Test matches and ODI series have met our expectations. We did well in the T20 to rally from a 2-0 deficit but were unable to win the match,” according to Dravid.

Rahul Dravid on IND vs WI

Rahul Dravid was also unafraid to acknowledge that his team’s mistakes cost them the series.

“In the first two games and the fifth T20I, we made a few mistakes along the way. We did not bat well as we could have. But it is a young and developing team, ” he observed.

“We wanted to try out the youngsters in this series and give them an opportunity. We also tried a few combinations, so there were a few positives in that aspect,” Rahul Dravid said.

With the ODI World Cup approaching, the Indian head coach also pointed out one important area where the men in blue need to improve.

“Regarding the squad we had in the Caribbean, we probably did not have the flexibility to change the combinations. But I think in the future, we can look at specific areas to get better – depth in the batting is one area we are trying to address. But we also do not want to weaken our bowling attack to ensure our batting goes bigger. We have challenges on that front, and we need to work on that,” he explained.

Dravid also gave three debutants from India appreciation for their contributions on the tour.

“In the fourth game, Jaiswal displayed his talent. Tilak Varma demonstrated excellent fielding, played with great intent, and even displayed some bowling ability. In all of the forms, Mukesh made his debut as well, and his ability to bowl in the dying stages shone out. These are some really great series outcomes,” he concluded.
