PCB on verge of agreeing to Pakistan players’ central contract demands

According to Cricket Pakistan, numerous players have expressed satisfaction with the new contracts.

In a significant move to acknowledge and reward the talent and dedication of its players, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is gearing up to introduce substantial increases in remuneration for its national cricketers.

The expiration of the initial term for the central contracts of national cricketers, originally set to conclude on June 30th, has paved the way for renegotiations and discussions regarding the terms of new contracts. These discussions have been ongoing for a while now, with prominent senior players actively engaging with the cricket board to accept their requests, including enhanced remuneration and other matters.

According to Cricket Pakistan, numerous players have expressed satisfaction with the new contracts, raising hopes that more players will follow suit and reach agreements in the near future. The official announcement of these revised contracts is anticipated in the upcoming week.

Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the Management Committee, has been actively involved in discussions with the Cricket Technical Committee (CTC) to deliberate on matters related to the central contracts. These deliberations have yielded concrete recommendations, with insights also shared by Inzamam-ul-Haq, the recently appointed Chief Selector.

While some players have already shown willingness to accept pay increases of even more than double their current earnings, efforts continue to persuade a few players regarding specific contract aspects. However, it is expected that consensus will be reached in due course.

Furthermore, the PCB is introducing enhanced flexibility for players to participate in international leagues. Under the new policy, cricketers falling under ‘A’ category will be allowed to join one T20 league annually, while those in ‘B’ category can participate in two leagues each year. ‘C’ category cricketers will have the opportunity to engage in up to three leagues annually. Notably, top Pakistan players have expressed a desire for further flexibility within this framework.
