India vs Japan: Asian Chamions Trophy Semifinal LIVE – India will face Japan in the semifinal of the Hockey Asian Champions Trophy 2023. India enter the upcoming contest after thrashing Pakistan 4-0. The hosts won four out of the five matches in the round-robin stage. Their only draw came against Japan earlier in the tournament. The spirited team led by Masahi Ohashi played out a 1-1 draw against the hosts.
Japan meanwhile haven’t been at their best in the tournament. The team advanced to the semifinal at the last moment after registering a 2-1 win against China. It was their first victory in the tournament. Before this match, the team had registered two draws and two losses.
India enter the upcoming contest as the favourites. However Japan will look to seek inspiration from their performance earlier in the tournament against the Men in Blue.
India vs Japan Head-to-Head
Both the teams have met 34 times in the past. India enjoy a terrific dominance in the head-to-head record. The Men in Blue registered 27 victories so far, while Japan managed just three wins. Four matches between the two sides ended in a draw.
In the Asian Champions Trophy, both the sides have faced each other nine times. India have secured win in five matches. Japan meanwhile won just two games while the remaining two encounters ended in draw.
Before the Asian Games, both the teams met at the Hockey World Cup earlier this year. India clinched a dominant 8-0 victory on the classification match. However during the 2021 Asian Champions Trophy, Japan defeated India 5-3 in the semifinal. India now eye revenge for the loss in the upcoming contest.
