Ishan Kishan flawed approach in T20Is gives way to Yashasvi Jaiswal

Ishan Kishan has a strike of 103.12 in the ongoing IND vs WI T20 series.

After being the highest scorer in the IND vs ODI series, Ishan Kishan failed to impress the Indian management in the IND vs WI T20s. Kishan has scored just 33 in the two T20Is he played so far and was replaced by another southpaw, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Kishan is a shoo-in for the ODI World Cup 2023 as the backup opener, making three consecutive fifties in the ODI series and scoring 184 runs across three matches. However, the opener has an abysmal record in T20Is. Kishan has made just four fifties in 29 matches and averages under 25. While seen as an aggressive batter, his strike is less than 122 and he hasn’t scored a fifty in his 16 T20I innings.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has pointed out that Kishan was dropped from the T20 side due to him playing way too many dot balls.

“He has scored a double century in ODI cricket as an opener but he hasn’t fired in T20Is. Let’s not confuse T20Is with the IPL,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“…when you play T20Is, one series comes in three months. If you don’t start well in that series, suddenly you start thinking because the number of matches is limited and your place is not yet fully secured, someone or the other is waiting behind you.

“So if someone is waiting and there is pressure on you, sometimes you tend to forget what your template was. If you see the current series, he played only two matches, he has more than 50% dot balls. Ishan Kishan didn’t use to play so many dot balls.” Aakash said this while highlighting the problem with Kishan’s batting in T20Is.
