Real Madrid’s star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’ season could be over before the start. The Belgian tore his left ACL in training and will undergo surgery in coming days. The Spanish club released the statement to confirm the news.
“After the tests carried out on our player Thibaut Courtois, he’s been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days”, the La Liga club said in a statement.
Courtois set for a long spell out of action
Courtois suffered injury during training and reportedly left the pitch in tears, according to Spanish journalist Miguel Diaz.

The Beligian keeper is now set to miss almost an entire 2023/24 season. This leaves Real Madrid in tricky position with the start of the new La Liga season just days away.
Los Blancos will face Athletic Bilbao on Saturday in their first match of the season and they have only Andriy Lunin as their senior goalkeeper. Lunin played 12 times last season for the Spanish club.
He has made just nine La Liga appearances for the club since joining in 2018. It will be interesting to see whether the club will look for a permament keeper or will get a senior goalie on loan for one season.
