Chelsea launch shock £48 million bid for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia

Chelsea look to hijack Liverpool's move on Southampton's Romeo Lavia. The Blues send across a bid of £48 million

Romeo Lavia: It seems that Romeo Lavia is a man in demand at the moment. Liverpool have been chasing the Belgian midfielder for quite a while in the transfer window now. While they have been trying to get the fee sorted for him, there has been a new twist in the tale. Chelsea, out of the blue, have popped up as one of the contenders to sign him. The Blues have apparently sent across an offer of £48 million for the Romeo Lavia.

Chelsea bid for Romeo

In an unexpected move, Chelsea has launched a £48 million bid to outbid Liverpool for Romeo Lavia. The 19-year-old Belgian midfielder is wanted by Southampton for £50 million after the Reds and Jurgen Klopp’s team have made “multiple” proposals.
Romeo Lavia appears destined to remain in the Premier League as Chelsea looks to outbid Liverpool for the teenager.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Blues are making a lot of effort to sign Lavia. The relegated Saints understand that trying to keep him is futile.

Lavia’s departure would be more painful for Southampton as West Ham closes in on England midfielder James Ward-Prowse of Southampton. Chelsea’s offer, according to Ornstein, is “£48m including add-ons,” and the conversation is still ongoing. The imposing teenager has also been associated with a move to Manchester United.

Southampton holding out

The Championship club has been holding out for £50 million and on Monday rejected a £46 million offer from Liverpool, their third attempt. An overseas club has also made preliminary contact with the 19-year-old Belgian. Southampton is confident in their assessment because they anticipate Manchester City will exercise their £45 million buy-back clause, which becomes active next summer.

Chelsea needs midfield reinforcements and has been negotiating with Brighton for £105 million-rated Moises Caicedo, while Leeds United’s Tyler Adams is projected to fetch £20 million. The Reds have been debating whether to boost their offer or pursue Fluminense midfielder Andre.

The offer will also put Liverpool’s resolve to the test. Southampton’s matchday roster for Tuesday’s EFL Cup match against League Two side Gillingham was missing Lavia. The Saints won’t have any problem letting him go if the South Coast side’s £50m valuation is met. Liverpool have so far struggled to meet that number.

Chelsea’s fourth bid for Caicedo

After having 3 bids rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion, they are all set to make their 4th bid for Moises Caicedo. Chelsea coach, Mauricio Pochettino is keen on adding the midfielder to his roster. There will be a fourth attempt by the Blues to acquire Moises Caicedo, a midfielder estimated to cost £90 million.

According to SunSport, Mauricio Pochettino of the Blues is determined to sign the Ecuadorian from Brighton. The Seagulls expect Caicedo, 21, to begin the season at the Amex and are asking for £100 million.
