Domino Effect, How IND vs PAK, ENG vs PAK lead to 9 changes in World Cup Schedule

Lack of foresight and poor planning force nine changes in World Cup schedule after 43 days delay.

Move one and all other dominos will fall. And that’s exactly what happened with World Cup 2023 Schedule. No doubt the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is at fault as the secretary failed to foresee a clash of Navratri with a blockbuster India vs Pakistan clash at his home state. And thus, a change in IND vs PAK and then again in IND vs ENG in Kolkata forced changes in as many as 7 fixtures as per the revised World Cup schedule.

Pakistan were supposed to play against Sri Lanka on October 12, followed by India on Oct 15. However, as the IND vs PAK date has been advanced by a day, Pakistan would only get a 48-hour break. That has forced a change in PAK vs SL schedule as well. Instead on Oct 12, Pakistan will face Sri Lanka on Oct 10. It will enable a 4-day gap between the two games for Babar Azam & Co.

Furthermore, to fill up the blank space on Oct 12, ICC moved the crucial Australia vs South Africa on the day. It was originally scheduled for Oct 13. New Zealand vs Bangladesh, originally listed for Oct 14, will now be on Oct 13.

On Sunday, October 15, England will take on Afghanistan in Delhi. It was originally on Oct 14 as per World Cup Schedule.

Affected matches due to IND vs PAK:

  • England vs Bangladesh (Moved from 2 PM to 10:30 AM on Oct 10)
  • Pakistan vs Sri Lanka (Moved from Oct 12 to Oct 10 at 2 PM)
  • Australia vs South Africa (Moved from Oct 13 to Oct 12)
  • New Zealand vs Bangladesh (Moved from Oct 14 to Oct 13)
  • India vs Pakistan (Moved from Oct 15 to Oct 14)
  • England vs Afghanistan (Moved from Oct 14 to Oct 15)

h PAK vs ENG rescheduled because BCCI and ICC failed to foresee Kali Puja clash on November 12, it has been advanced by a day as per the revised World Cup Schedule. In fact, a doubleheader on Nov 12 has been exchanged with Pakistan vs England. Instead of Nov 12, PAK vs ENG will be on Nov 11 while Australia vs Bangladesh will be on the same day at 10:30 AM. On the evening of Diwali, Nov 12, India will take on the Netherlands to conclude the league stage in Bengaluru.

Affected matches:

  • Australia vs Bangladesh (Moved from Nov 12 to 10:30 AM on Nov 11)
  • Pakistan vs England (Moved from Nov 12 to 2 PM on Nov 11)
  • India vs Netherlands (Moved from Nov 11 to Nov 12)

As a result of the delay and revised schedule, fans who had booked hotels and flights will also need to reschedule their bookings. Already, flight tickets and hotel prices have skyrocketed.
