According to the Brazilian newspaper Gol globo, Manchester City has launched a £70 million bid for West Ham player Lucas Paqueta. West Ham is reportedly unwilling to trade the Brazilian international and is set to want more than the £70 million amount reported in Brazil.

After joining from Lyon last year, Paqueta scored four goals in his debut Premier League season and was an important component of David Moyes’ Europa Conference League club. The Hammers’ lack of summer recruitment activity had raised fears, putting Moyes’ job at the London Stadium in jeopardy ahead of their Premier League opening against Bournemouth on Saturday, August 12.

City looking to sign reinforcements

After losing both Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez this summer, Treble-winners, City is looking to bolster their midfield options. They have already signed Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea and also Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig, but Pep Guardiola wants more reinforcements so that his team can compete on all fronts again this season.

With the departure of Paqueta, West Ham may be left with a void in the centre of the park, having already sold Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105 million. Paqueta has only been at the London Stadium for one season, having joined from Ligue 1 club Lyon for a club record £53 million last summer.

Walker and Silva close to signing new contracts at City

After making a transfer U-turn, Kyle Walker is reportedly staying at Manchester City this summer. This summer, Bayern Munich has been heavily linked to the England defender. The 33-year-old, though, has reportedly opted to remain at City after “fresh talks” with manager Pep Guardiola, according to the Mail. On Friday night, Walker went to supper with his management. The two had dinner at Manchester’s upscale Japanese eatery, MUSU.

According to rumours, Bernardo Silva is open to discussing extending his contract with Manchester City. Over the last year, the 28-year-old has been widely linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium. Barcelona and PSG have both expressed an interest in signing him this summer.

According to The Times, Silva is now seriously considering a new deal with Manchester City. Silva is a popular part of the Manchester City squad, which is one of the reasons he remains in Guardiola’s plans for the coming season.
