RR pacer Trent Boult returns to New Zealand ODI squad ahead of World Cup 2023

Having turned down a national contract post New Zealand's defeat to Australia last year, Trent Boult strives to regain his form prior to the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

New Zealand and Rajasthan Royals pacer Trent Boult is all set to make a comeback in international cricket against England in a four-match ODI series. Boult, who declined a national contract after New Zealand’s loss to Australia last year, aims to regain form before the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The series starts on September 8th in Cardiff and includes the return of fast-bowling all-rounder Kyle Jamieson, recovered from a back injury, in the 15-player squad named by the New Zealand Cricket Board.

“We’re delighted to include Kyle in this squad alongside his earlier selection for the T20 squads to play the UAE and England,” coach Gary Stead said in a media release. “He’s been working extremely hard on his rehabilitation following back surgery and we’re looking forward to seeing him back playing on the international stage. It’s also great to welcome Trent back into our ODI unit as he begins his preparation towards the World Cup in India.”

Mark Chapman and Jimmy Neesham, both all-rounders, will be absent from the series due to pending parenthood. Kane Williamson will join the team during the England tour for training and rehabilitation post his knee ligament surgery in April. All-rounder Michael Bracewell continues recovery from Achilles surgery.

New Zealand plan to unveil their World Cup squad in early September. To fine-tune their preparations, the team will partake in an ODI warmup series in Bangladesh. The Black Caps have introduced an extended T20 squad, which is geared up for the upcoming clashes against United Arab Emirates and England.

New Zealand ODI squad: Tom Latham (capt), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Will Young
