Rasmus Hojlund ruled out from Man United’s 1st Premier League match with injury

Coach Erik Ten Hag announces that new signing forward Rasmus Hojlund will not be able to play in their Premier League opening match against Wolves due to injury.

Rasmus Hojlund: Less than a week is left for Man United’s first Premier League match. Coach Erik Ten Hag knows the importance of starting with wins as Manchester United started last season with two defeats. Hence, the team will be determined to win the first match of the tournament. However, the coach has already been handed an injury blow. It doesn’t seem like their new signing Rasmus Hojlund will recover in time from an injury he sustained during his final few weeks with Atalanta.

Manchester United is set to play their first game of the Premier League on August 15 against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Coach Erik Ten Hag is eyeing an easy win, but he has been handed an injury blow. New signing  Rasmus Hojlund is set to miss the first match as the coach informed Sky Sports, “It’s difficult to say how that process will go, but I think he’s making good progress at this moment. We have to see day by day how the progress will go, then we have to follow up.”

He added, “Of course when he’s available and he’s here so you have the option to play, but we don’t expect him in that short notice to be 100 percent fit. So we have to wait sometime more. We need all positions doubled because of the number of games.” Hojlund got injured in the last few weeks of his time at Atalanta. He is yet to recover from the injury. Coach Ten Hag discussed about the importance of having more players in one position considering the future hectic schedule.

He said, “We need the competition, you always have to deal with suspensions and injuries, with the form of players. Also from a technical perspective, we need double positioning and yes you need good players, but also every player needs perspective to play. I’m happy with the squad and I want a strong squad and competition in the squad so I’m happy with the current players who are in, so if we go with the squad into the season, that’s fine.”

Man United relied heavily on Marcus Rashford last season to get them through in the final third. However, they had an extremely tight schedule near the end of the season. On top of that, when Rashford was injured, it became a major concern for the Red Devils. They needed an additional forward and targeted Harry Kane. However, Kane’s £100 million asking price became a problem. Hence, Man United targeted Hojlund and brought him in for £72 million. Hojlund will also be disappointed about missing the opening match.

Describing his eagerness, Hojlund said, “I know it’s the most competitive league in the world. Playing for Man United has always been my dream. So, this is two very important components which make me take this decision to come here. So, [I’m] just looking forward to start working and getting on the pitch. I think winning is the most important. I always go onto the pitch with the mentality of winning and of course, my role is to score goals and help with what the manager wants.”
