Chief Selector Inzamam gives a nod to Mickey Arthur to continue as Team Director

Chief Selector Inzamam gives a nod to Mickey Arthur to continue as Team Director

Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn joined the Pakistan Team Management earlier this year.

According to a PCB source, Pakistan’s new Chief Selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq, has given his approval to Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn to continue their terms with the Pakistan Cricket Board. Inzamam, who has worked with Arthur before, feels that he is the right man for the job as the Team Director for Babar Azam and Co. The former Pakistan skipper also approved of Bradburn as the head coach for the side, claiming that he knows the Kiwi coach well.

Arthur, who was Pakistan’s head coach from May 2016 to August 2019, joined the side as Team Director in April this year. Bradburn soon joined the South African coach as part of the Pakistani management in May.

However, there was speculation that their stints might be cut short by the cricket technical committee. The committee, which includes Inzamam-ul-Haq and Misbah-ul-Haq, didn’t give a positive response to the presence of foreign recruits on the selection panel. According to a PCB insider, Inzamam played an influential role in convincing PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf and the board’s technical committee head, Misbah-ul-Haq, not to try to change the team management at this stage.

“It was Inzamam who gave positive feedback about Mickey Arthur and even Bradburn and assured the Chairman he will be able to work well with them and they can all do their best to select the best teams for coming events,” the insider said.

Inzamam, after accepting the paid position, said that he has worked before with Arthur and also knows Bradburn well.

“I have worked before as Chief Selector and formed a good understanding with Mickey. With the Asia Cup and World Cup coming up and then a Test tour to Australia it is going to be a challenge in the coming days for us,” Inzamam said.
