Babar Azam sounds alarm bells ahead of Asia Cup 2023, smashes 10th T20 century to equal Chris Gayle

Babar Azam stroked 104 runs in just 59 deliveries which included 8 fours and five maximums as Colombo Strikers completed a thumping win.

Babar Azam continued his excellent touch in the Lanka Premier League as the Pakistan skipper stroked his maiden century in the competition with his side completed a thumping win over Galle Titans. With this century, Babar etched his name in the record books as he has now become the second batter after Chris Gayle to have ten centuries in the 20-over format.

Chris Gayle has 22 centuries in his T20 career

As mentioned above, Babar completed his 10th T20 century which put him second on the list for Most T20 centuries. Chris Gayle who has played a total of 463 matches stroked 22 T20 centuries alongside 88 fifties. The likes of David Warner, Michael Klinger and Virat Kohli are third on the list with 8 centuries to their name.

Speaking about the match, Chasing a big total of 189 runs, Colombo got off to a brilliant start as both Pathum Nissanka and Babar completed their fifties. Nissanka fell after the 50-run mark. However, Babar continued his good run with the bat. The right-handed batter got out in the last over but his Pakistani teammate Mohammad Nawaz completed the chase for Colombo as he stroked back to back boundaries to seal the match.

Babar was also adjudged player of the match for his blistering performance with the bat. “Thanks to Allah. I think the wicket was good. Planned well in the first six overs and matched the run rate to win the game in the end. I thought we could get this 189 down. I though 190 beyond was on the cards. The bowlers brought us back and then we stepped up here. Of course, we tried to build long partnerships and play it deep. It was all about taking it deep and glad we came out on top,” Babar said at the post-match presentation.
